Dept. 56 Dickens Village Display

Dept. 56 Dickens Village Display

I started collecting Dickens Village houses when I was 16.  I asked for pieces for my birthday and Christmas, and we even received a few for our wedding.  These days that spending money goes towards softball uniforms and music lessons, but I do still love my village.  I have seen a few pieces at garage sales over the years, but the sellers always seem to want 'real' money for them (aka a higher amount), and I just can't bring myself to do it.  I will note, however, that many of the accessories (trees, fences) are from garage sales, or are from after Christmas sales and are different makers.  (a dept. 56 tree and a Wal-mart tree really are just about the same in all ways except price) The lighthouse on the middle shelf, far right is from a garage sale and is broken, (so I got it for a buck) but with the crack hidden under the artificial snow you would never guess.

This cabinet has glass shelves, so when setting up my display I had to first cut up an old white sheet to act as my snow.  I wired all of the houses for lighting so at the flip of a switch the whole village glowed.  Sadly, in order to make space for my craft room supplies I had to pack my village away.  I do miss it, especially at Christmas, but we use the craft room so much that I have no regrets.
