Simple Projects

Painted Ceiling

The ceiling of my craft room.  This was done with a projector, a ladder, left over paint, and a serious neck/headache when it was all over! .....but, I LOVE it!  (I think of these uncomfortable projects as suffering for my art.)  The light fixture itself was that shiny plastic brass - I just primed it and painted it - right there on the ceiling (back to the neck/headache) I did it with an artist brush, so if you get close you can see brush marks - but it just gives it more character, I think.

Printing Press Letter Art

I found a box of old printing press letters at a garage sale for $3.00.  I just had to have them, even though I had no idea what to do with them.  I found this shadow box frame a few weeks later, for $1.00 and it all came together.  It was super easy - I just started lining up the wooden letters in the frame, and this is what I got.  I have it leaning up against the wall on my landing - it's pretty heavy so I decided not to hang it.  It's an awesome display though, and you get a full eye level view as you come up the stairs.  The kids like to do 'word searches' and see what they can spell from the letters they find.

Here's a close up.  Please pardon the flash - no way around it except to remove the glass (and since I used no glue to hold the letters in I am not going to do that!)

Paint a Photo Mat

I want curtains made of this fabric for my craft room - but so far I have not found any.  I did find this small framed piece for $1.00 to hang over my window for a great look.  The mat was too dark though, so I panted over it with some old craft paint.
Just some fun facts - the paint and paintbrush are also garage sale finds - the paint was in a shoe box full of different colors - $2.00 for the entire box, the paintbrush was new in a multi-pack and was in the 25 cent box. - I always buy items like this when I find them and the price is right - you never know when you will need it.
